How to install theme in Blogger -step by step

There are two simple methods on how to install theme in Blogger. Restoration method and code pasting method.

This methods are very simple and straight forward. You done have to be an expert or a coder to follow these methods.

Restoration method



1 step

Go to Blogger.com and login using your login info and select the blog you wants to install your templates to and select "Theme" from the sidebar menu.

In the "theme" section click the small arrow just beside "edit template" or "Customize"

And a drop down menu will appear.

First of all, you need to download your current theme in case you may need the backup later. Select "backup" to download your current theme.


3 step


Now use the "Restore" option in the theme, it will take you to your systems files where you select your downloaded template.

Remember to extract your downloaded template before starting this how to install theme in blogger steps.



How to extract your downloaded themes?


Go to your downloads in your system's files and locate your downloaded template.

Click on the template and options will pop up select "extract" and your files will be extracted to different file types as it is contained in it.

This process differ from system to system but are all similar. Some systems

Now after using 'Restore" option, you will be directed to your systems files.

Select among the files that were extracted from your downloaded theme the "xml" file and show in the screenshot below

Now wait for it to upload. If you have an issue from the extracted xml file refusing to upload, then you should;

  1. Go to your notepad or any text aditor you use. In my case I use notepad. In your notes, use the options bar and "import text file" and import your xml file that refused to upload


  2. Select the xml file from your template's extracted files and your notepad will open the file. Don't change codes from the codes.
  3. Use the option bar again to select "export to a text file"

  4. Now save it to your files.

Continue from where we stopped.


Go back to your Blogger dashboard and log in to your theme section as shown previously.

Use the "Restore" option and select now the new file you have saved from you notepad.

Wait for it to upload and save it. You are now done installing. Your theme in now ready.


Codes pasting method


This method is more easier and simpler than the first.

But to be honest I haven't try it myself but it is well use by many bloggers and it works!




1 step

Go to your Blogger dashboard and go to your theme section and click options button beside "edit template" or "Customize"

2 step

Now use the "edit HTML" a bunch of codes will pop up.

Don't forget to back up your current theme as explained previously.

Erase all the codes you see completely.


3 step

Go to your notepad. Import you xml file from your extracted templates files and copy the entire codes. Or use any text editor you have to copy the XML text file.

4 step


Go back to your codes space in step 1 and delete all the codes.


5 step

Paste the codes you had copied from your notepad or your text editor in to the space left and save it.

Your theme is now installed!
