SEO is an acronym for Search Engine Optimization.

It is the process of improving website or web page visibility to the Search Engine Result Page (SERP).

Simply put the exercise or practice of creating or improving website or web page to be visible in the search engine results pages is what SEO is all about.

And these basic practices are what we are going to look into.

This article will try to explain SEO strategy, on-page SEO, SEO ranking, SEO keywords and a lots more.

The aim of SEO is to make search engines understand your page and to make search engines believe that your page content is qualitative and relevant to particular search query.

The ability to make your page more visible and understandable will determine it's ranking in the search engine result pages (SERPs).

However, there are two things to consider when creating your content for SEO.

1, USERS

Your aim is not only to rank higher in the search engines in order to get more traffic to your site, but make you visitors love your page content as well.

Therefore, your focus is creating content that will make visitors to your site not only click the page but also like the content they find in the page and more likely, stay longer in it.

This will tell Google that your content has quality and relevance that users are looking for and rank it higher on the SERP.

Avoid things like pogo sticking effect, this is when someone land in your page by searching through search engines and see that your page those not give him the information he was looking for.

Exit and click the next result in the search engine result page (SERP) and still go back not finding what he was looking for and click another page.

Continue to visit more pages before finding the page that gives him what he was looking for and stay in the page.

Now this page will rank higher than the Pogo sticking pages that the visitor exit and if your page is found among the Pogo sticking pages it will go down.

To avoid this you need to create relevant content.

2, Search engines

After making your content good for your audience the next thing is to make it visible to your visitors search engines and the way to do that is by making it visible to search engines.

That is why understanding Search Engine Optimization basics is necessary.

Search Engines wants to make sure that, what they are offering to the queries are really what people queried for. So they want to make sure that they don't give any random and irrelevant results to the queries.

Now you simply make search engines digest your pages and there by making it visible to them.

Let's follow the five SEO Basics one by one.

Search Engine Optimization Basics: 1 LINKS

Internal link

Internal linking is a technique where hyperlinks in a page point to other pages on the same domain/site.

Internal linking helps Google understand the quality of pages in the same domain and their relevance as well as find and index them.

It's very important to link internationally to your site's content pages/posts for SEO.

This makes it more user experience and increase pages authority if used strategically.

External linking

External links are hyperlinks that point to other pages on a different domain/site.

Search Engine Optimization Basics: 2 CONTENT

In other to write a SEO FRIENDLY CONTENT you must focus on the purpose! Because, you must keep in mind that you are writing for people not search engines.

So many times some bloggers misinterpret this subject and focus on creating content to the favor of the search engines and forget that which is more important "their audience" who are primary target.

You should determine your course of study and focus on it. You need to focus on creating a quality and original content for your audience based on the purposes of your writing.

Some of this purposes my include:

To educate
To inspire
To motivate
To entertain

Keywording

Through out your content you should include your keywords in a smart way not too many to be spammy. Keywords tactics help search engines understand your page content faster. At least four to five times is ok.

As you can see this page has "Search Engine Optimization Basics" as its keywords and it's found across the content

Long content

Your content should be as long as possible, that will probably tell search engines that there are lots of resources in your content and there by giving good material to your visitors. However, it shouldn't be too long to entertain.

Evergreen content

These are page contents that stay relevant at all times. You should create contents that will be relevant for long periods of time.

Avoid contents that are trendy in nature, meaning contents that becomes outdated or irrelevant in time.

An example of evergreen content is like "how to use team work to improve your business productivity"

While trendy content is like "how to strategize your team's work to improve your business productivity during COVIG 19"

Search Engine Optimization: 3, HEADLINES/MEGA DISCRIPTION

You need to let your headline summarize what your page is talking about at least within 6 - 12 words is good for SEO.

When writting your headline keywords are very good materials to discrib the entire content.

Search in your niche the most popular keywords people search for and look for the less popular but similar keyword and use it to build your headline.

This keyword should be found all over your article, like within four to five times is enough.

The second thing to consider is what queries you want search engines to display your page to. E.g when I want my page to show up when someone search for "what are seo basics?" Then my focused keyword should be something like "Seo Basics."

Mega discription

This is the brief page discription displayed under headlines by search engines to give visitors a brief information about the page content.

Your mega discriptions are very important to attract visitors to choose whether to click or not click your page from the alternative pages.

When search engines discover that your page is not getting clicks from visitors it believes that your page is less relevant and drop it down from the list.
So you need to make your mega discriptions very relevant and comprehensive to attract your visitors.

Fortunately, you have the choice of how and what your mega discriptions will be.

Most of the times it is the first few lines at the beginning of your content just below the headline. like in the picture below
